About us
To prepare for the arrival of astronauts on the surface of the Moon and Mars, the construction and assembly of the infrastructure to support life and mission operations must begin prior to crew arrival. This requires intelligent machines capable of operating autonomously over long periods of time. One such machine is the Lightweight Surface Manipulation System, or LSMS, a family of long-reach cable-actuated robotic cranes developed and matured at NASA Langley Research Center over two decades.
